New York with a major in ballet and a minor in modern dance and drama.
She has studied with the American School of Ballet, Ballet Arts, Robert Joffrey, and
the Tour Jete International in Canes, France, to name a few. Dorothy was
awarded the Governor’s Excellence in Teaching Award in Dance Education for the
State of Virginia. She was a member of the board which founded the Tennessee
Association of Dance and was the organization’s first Treasurer.
During her career, Dorothy has danced professionally throughout the United States
and Canada. One memorable highlight of her career was as a member of the
Radio City Music Hall Rockettes. She has taught dance and choreographed
numerous events throughout the Southeast, including local productions, such as
Kingsport’s own Showtime.
Currently, Dorothy is a Co-Director at the
Centre for the Performing Arts in Kingsport,
Tennessee. She teaches advanced level classes in multiple dance forms, including
ballet, pointe and tap. Her students perform regularly throughout the year at
many local and regional community events.
Assistant Artistic Director

Michelle Bacon:
After 20 years of dance, Michelle took her final bow on stage following her performance as the Sugar Plum Fairy in last year’s Nutcracker. Her love of dance continues as she assumes the role of Assistant Artistic Director for InterCity. Michelle began dancing at the age of 3 in Ohio and over the years, she has performed several roles such as Clara, Snow Queen, Arabian and Sugar Plum Fairy. She has been a featured principle dancer in numerous venues including Disney World, Kingsport’s Showtime, Pointe West Dance Company and as a guest artist throughout the Southeast. Michelle’s dance training includes multiple schools and summer intensives such as Centre for the Performing Arts, North Carolina Dance Theatre and Virginia School of the Arts. Michelle was one of 120 dances chosen from thousands who auditioned from the United States, Canada and Europe for the Joffrey Midwest Summer Intensive Program, which she attended in 2002. In 2003, Michelle was awarded the Student Artist of the Year Award by the Kingsport’s Art Counsel. Michelle graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2007 with a BS in Exercise Science. She is now a nationally licensed massage therapist and a certified pilates instructor. Currently, Michelle is pursuing her Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy at East Tennessee State University and looks forward to incorporating her love of dance and movement into her career.
